During the Spanish War of Independence, the castle played a crucial role as a strategic bastion against Napoleon’s troops. However, in 1813, the French forces, retreating, decided to destroy the fortress by blowing up its arsenal. Although left in ruins, its essence has lived on in its underground world: the ancient medieval well, a mysterious spiral staircase, and the fabled Moor’s Cave, filled with stories and legends.
