The Provincial Council of Burgos, located on the iconic Espolón Promenade, is a key institution in the political and administrative history of the province. Since its creation in 1835, it has overseen public administration, representing the political and organizational power of the region.
Neoclassical architecture
The Provincial Council building is a true example of neoclassicism, featuring elements such as columns, pediments, and an elegant symmetry that give it an air of solemnity. Situated in one of the most touristic areas of Burgos, its design and imposing presence make it one of the most representative landmarks of the Espolón Promenade.
Images of the history
The interior houses an imposing imperial staircase in whose skylight we find mural paintings by Vela Zanetti, dedicated to four scenes from the Cantar del Mio Cid. In these paintings from 1965, we can appreciate the scenes of ‘La Jura de Santa Gadea’, ‘El Destierro’, ‘La Batalla’ and ‘El Duelo’.
