Immerse yourself in an astonishing journey through the history of humankind at the Museum of Human Evolution. This spectacular museum, designed by Juan Navarro Baldeweg, is much more than a simple exhibition space, where each fossil tells a story about the distant past of our species.
A window into our origins
One of Burgos’ greatest attractions is its collection of original fossils found at the nearby Atapuerca archaeological sites, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You’ll have the opportunity to admire pieces of great scientific and anthropological importance, such as Elvis’ pelvis and the Miguelón skull, key remains of Homo heidelbergensis. Nearly a million years old, Homo antecessor is another gem of the exhibition. These discoveries have positioned Burgos as an international reference in anthropology and the history of human evolution.
A museum for family enjoyment
The Museum of Human Evolution is not only a fascinating place for experts but also for families and tourists of all ages. With its interactive and dynamic approach, the museum uses the latest technology to bring the past to life. The little ones will enjoy ‘The Treasure Map of the MEH’, a fun tool that will guide them in their quest to solve mysteries. Additionally, the museum has been awarded the Family Tourism Seal by the Spanish Federation of Large Families, making it an ideal destination for visiting with children.
Explore our past
Complete your visit with an excursion to the Atapuerca archaeological sites, located just 20 minutes from the city. Considered one of the most important places in the world for understanding human evolution, this experience will allow you to stand in the very spot where some of history’s most relevant discoveries were made.
