Francisco de Salinas Cultural Center

The Francisco de Salinas Cultural Center and the Clunia Theater are pillars of culture in Burgos, located in the historic Municipal Granary, a building with over 500 years of history. This space has evolved from a wheat silo and provincial prison into a cultural center since 1981.

The Clunia Theater, with a seating capacity of 611, is the heart of this complex, hosting various plays and concerts. It also houses artistic institutions such as the Municipal Theater School and the Municipal School of Dancers, making it a meeting point for artistic training and expression in the city.

From granary to cultural center

The building that now houses the Francisco de Salinas Cultural Center has a fascinating history that dates back to 1514, when it was built as the Municipal Granary, a crucial wheat storage and regulation facility in Burgos.

In 1853, the old granary was transformed into a provincial prison, which led to a major renovation of the building to adapt it to its new function. Despite the changes in its use over the centuries, the building has maintained its imposing historical structure, reflecting the evolution of Burgos and its ability to adapt its heritage to new needs.

In 1981, the building found a new life as a cultural center, giving rise to the Clunia Theater. Since then, this space has become one of the most prominent cultural venues in Burgos, hosting a wide variety of cultural and educational activities that continue to nurture the artistic spirit of the community.
